ZTE and TIM Brasil to Set Up Next-Generation Broadband Innovation Center

July 24, 2014, Brasilia – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, announced an agreement with TIM Brasil to jointly set up an Joint-laboratory/Innovation Center in Brazil to spearhead research in next-generation broadband technologies.

 

In a ceremony attended by President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China and President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia, ZTE and TIM Brasil also agreed to partner on ultra-broadband projects in the next three years. The framework agreement between ZTE and TIM Brasil was signed by Yu Xin, Vice President of ZTE Corporation, and Mario Girasole, Vice President at TIM Brasil.

 

“ZTE is delighted to partner with TIM Brasil to develop broadband technologies of the future,” Mr. Yu said. “ZTE is committed to investment in innovations in next generation broadband technologies, which will be fundamental to the development of future telecommunications and information technology services.”

 

The Joint-laboratory/Innovation Center of ZTE and TIM Brasil will focus on research in broadband technologies including XG-PON (passive optical network), NG-PON2 and G.Fast.

 

ZTE is the biggest provider of ultra-broadband network solutions to TIM Brasil. Since 2012, ZTE and TIM Brasil have been collaborating in ultra-broadband network deployments in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, which are the most advanced broadband deployments in Latin America. In 2014, ZTE strengthened the collaboration with TIM Brasil by being invited to participate in the tenders for major ultra-broadband projects for the deployment of DSLAM solutions. ZTE partners with TIM to provide Live TIM, which is TIM’s offering in fixed line ultra- broadband.

 

TIM Brasil, the second biggest mobile operator in Brazil, is a subsidiary of Telecom Italia. Headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, TIM Brasil’s network covers 3,400 cities and 95% of Brazil’s urban population.
