CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black).

The letter ‘K’ is used for Black because ‘B’ already denotes Blue in the RGB color system. 

RGB stands for Red, Green, and Blue and is a commonly used digital color space for screens.

The CMYK color space is used for all print-related mediums.

This includes brochures, documents and of course packaging.

CMYK is also known as printing color mode.

 The biggest difference between it and RGB is that the RGB mode is a luminous color mode, and you can still see the content on the screen in a dark room.


CMYK is a color mode that relies on reflections. Why can we read the content of newspapers? It is because sunlight or light shines on the newspaper and reflects the content into our eyes. 

CMYK can only be seen when there is an external light source. So it is impossible to read in a dark room. 

As long as the image is seen on the printed matter, it is expressed in CMYK mode. For example, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, publicity albums, etc., all use the CMYK mode.

CMY is the initials of the names of 3 printing inks: Cyan Cyan, Magenta Magenta, Yellow Yellow. And K takes the last letter of black, in order to avoid confusion with blue, use K.

In theory, only three inks in CMY should be enough, and adding CMY together should give you black. However, high-purity ink cannot be achieved for the time being, and the result 

of the addition of CMY is dark red. Therefore, in order to ensure the output of black, it is also necessary to add a special black ink to reconcile.


RGB is generally called [color light three primary colors], R (red) red, G (green) green, B (blue) blue, and the color scale of RGB is 0-255. Since RGB is color light, the superposition of colors is more and more 

The brighter it is, so it is also called [additive color method]. When the value of the three colors is 255, white will appear, otherwise, when the three color values of RGB are 0, it will become black. 

From the RGB color relationship diagram above, we can see that B+G is cyan, B+R is magenta, and G+R is yellow, which is complementary to CMYK color.
